This tour is the perfect extension for the people participating in our Dry Tortugas Tour.  Each tour includes accommodations (5 nights), 5 full days of birding with Larry Manfredi, transportation, drinks and snacks.

This tour starts in Florida City and ends in Key West.  Those participants who are not continuing their adventure to the Dry Tortugas can rent a car or fly back to Miami.  Most of the major airlines fly to and from Key West.  Those participants who will depart the M/V Playmate after a tour can do the same.

 

First Night  - You will spend the night at a quality hotel in Homestead/Florida City.

 Day 1 - We will meet in the lobby of the hotel at 7:00 a.m.    We will spend the day in Everglades National Park.  The birds that we can expect to see today include Purple Gallinule, Wood Stork, White-Crowned Pigeon, Anhinga, Florida Red-Shouldered Hawk, Bald Eagle, Shiny Cowbird and with luck, Short-Tailed Hawk. We'll also see numerous wading birds such as Roseate Spoonbill, Great White Heron, and Least Bittern.  Returning to the hotel that evening.

Day 2- We will meet in the lobby of the hotel at 7:00 a.m.  Our day will be spent in the Miami area looking for the specialties such as Spot-Breasted Oriole, Red-Whiskered Bulbul, White-Winged Parakeet, Yellow-Chevronned Parakeet, Monk Parakeet, Eurasian Collared Dove, Indian Hill Myna, Common Myna, Snail Kite, Swallow-Tailed Kite, Cave Swallow, Burrowing Owl, Limpkin and Purple Swamphen, returning to the hotel that evening.

Day 3  Short-tailed Hawk, Whopping Crane, Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Snail Kite, Crested Caracara, Wild Turkey, Sandhill Crane, Burrowing Owl, Bachmanís Sparrow.  These will be the main target birds for this day.  We will spend the day in the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area in search of these birds.  We will spend the night near Vero Beach.

Day 4 - Today we will bird Stick Marsh in the town of Fellsmere.  Todayís focus will be Black-bellied Whistling Duck and Fulvous Whistling Duck, Limpkin and perhaps Snail Kite.  From here, we will work our way back to the Florida City area.

Day 5- We will meet in the lobby of the hotel at 7:00 a.m.  The birds that we can expect to see in the Florida Keys are Mangrove Cuckoo, Black-Whiskered Vireo, Gray Kingbird, Magnificent Frigatebird, White-Crowned Pigeon, Shiny Cowbird and Antillean Nighthawk. We'll also try for Cuban Yellow Warbler (also called Golden Warbler).

Birders continuing their South Florida adventure with our trip to the Dry Tortugas will board our boat, the M/V Playmate after dinner in Key West.

 

  Rates: $895 per person double occupancy

Singles supplement: $325

Includes hotel accommodation, continental breakfasts, transportation in the field, professional bird guiding services,and refreshments.

 Don't forget, these trips will take place during the Spring migration.  In addition to the birds mentioned above, we can expect to see migrants and Caribbean strays!

It is possible that the itinerary will change from above; all of the same birds will be target birds if there is a change.
